Supply and Installation of Integrated Information System for the Reconstruction Programs in Mining Regions

A very important task for the Romanian Government was the coordination of the strategies aimed at social-economic rehabilitation and reconstruction in the regions adversely affected by the restructuring of the mining sector. In order to successfully develop the Reconstruction Programs in Mining Regions, the implementation of a Management Information System (MIS) for collecting and processing all data resulted from the Social Mitigation component of the Mine Closure and Social Mitigation Project was mandatory.

The challenge

The purpose of the MIS is to optimize data collection, analysis and reporting activities, necessary for the management of all project components and of other programs implemented by National Agency for Development (NAD) in the mining regions.

The Project

This application has two directions. The first one covers online data transmission between central Oracle database and local databases in regional offices using an Internet browser, while the second one creates and updates databases in each regional office. The local databases are updated with particular information from central database regarding the activities performed for the Implementation of the Project and also information about other reconstruction programmes in these areas.

The concepts used for developing this information system are based on the following requirements:

  • to ensure the unity of the data stored in the central database;
  • to provide regional office stand alone operational capability;
  • to ensure the interface with the IMI system;
  • to implement and maintain the local databases used in making specific reports for each regional office;
  • to provide user-friendly interface.

S&T Romania provided a complete range of IT services: development, installation and commissioning, training of the personnel, technical support, including maintenance services, and also warranty and post-warranty services.
