RomTelecom

Expanding Telephone penetration

Since its privatization in 1999, RomTelecom has become a modern telecommunications group with a wire system serving more than 4.2 million users. The company has already launched mobile telephone and other new services - Internet, data transmission, Intelligent Network services, Voice Mail, etc - that will significantly expand its existing business. Faced with strong competition from mobile telephony providers, RomTelecom is making a major effort to expand its national network.
The Challenge

In order to reach its ambitious goals of expansion and improved services, RomTelecom needed a Data Center concept with enough computing power to run all the company's strategic applications, including customer care, billing, enterprise resource planning and state of the art enterprise storage components.

The solution

The solution includes disaster tolerant architecture with online remote backup of strategic data and applications securing at the same time the data integrity based on an advanced, high-end backup system.

The Data Center project is a large HP-UX implementation consisting of two high-availability clusters of high-end and midrange HP servers, an enterprise storage and centralized backup solution that include a disaster-recovery implementation in two different cities situated at more than two hundred kilometers distance. This infrastructure hosts RomTelecom's most critical applications, large Oracle databases and other management software. All the equipment is covered by SLAs with committed intervention and repair time.

The Disaster Recovery architecture, based on an EMC solution, ensures business continuity and protects company information.

The expertise

S&T Romania was responsible for technical planning and design, installation and implementation, employee training, operational support and maintenance services.

The high-performance, high-availability, scalable data center ensures RomTelecom a reliable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operation.
