Transgaz

Implementation of the Management Accounting Information System

The National Company for the Natural Gas Transport "Transgaz" S.A. Medias has as main objects of activity the transport, dispatch, international gas transit, and research projects in natural gas transport field and provides access to the National Transport System (NTS).

The Challenge

In order to enhance management control over its business Transgaz launched a public tender for a Management Accounting Information System. The project was financed through a World Bank loan and the estimated time scale of the project was 14 months.

The Project

The solution designed to meet Transgaz requirements was based on a powerful combination of Oracle's Relational Database Technology, Oracle Application modules with customized products and a selection of services. The main features of this system architecture are:

  • two main levels in the system, each with its own specific demands (Transgaz headquarters and user levels);
  • main processing and data storage is operated in only one location (central location of Transgaz).

Some of the benefits achieved through the implementation of the proposed applications are:

  • Timely access of management to critical information;
  • Allowing the administrative and financial teams to focus on more important activities instead of handling papers, records, checking or filling in forms and improving the internal control;
  • The analysis of the financial and statistical data enables the management of Transgaz to assess the current situation and to forecast the trends of the business;
  • A consolidated view of the financial and accounting information; a comprehensive view of the suppliers balances as well as of the financial and cash flow status of the organization and control of payments;
  • A complete view of assets, with the possibility to track the depreciation expenses directly on the consuming cost entity (like cost or profit center).
